For basic information about CFS and FM --symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options and prognosis-- see the following pages.
>Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
>Fibromyalgia
Before you do, however, we'd like to remind you that, even though CFS and FM are distinct and diagnosed differently, they share much in common:
- They are both invisible illnesses that strike women much more frequently than men.
- They have the same major symptoms: fatigue, pain, unrefreshing sleep and cognitive problems.
- They often appear together.
- They often occur together with a similar set of related conditions that include food and chemical sensitivity, headaches, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), orthostatic problems, and sleep disorders such as sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome.
- They are treated with similar medications and lifestyle adjustments, and have similar prognoses.
